A first choice is your preference for:

- Bilged hull
- V-hull
- S-hull

This choice has effects on the space and comfort of the ship. Other issues are length and width and even more important: the waterline. This line shows the part of the ship which lies underneeth the water. The waterline determines a great deal of the stability and comfort (headroom and floorsurface) of the ship.

The next choice is if you want an aft deck or not. And the choice salonor doghouse? Cockpit, tiller or steering wheel determine the shape. The companionway can be lowered, at the same level as the cockat floor or a bridgedeck.

The draftof the keel is also something to think about carefully.
